Why AutoQB

Car insurance, explained the way a knowledgeable friend would.

A quote packs a lot into one number: limits, deductibles, rating factors, discounts and fine print. Our guides take each piece apart so you can see what you are paying for and ask better questions.

AutoQB is an independent educational publisher. We don't sell insurance, and nothing on this site is a quote or a recommendation to buy a particular policy.

  1. 01

Read a quote line by line

Learn what each coverage, limit and deductible on a quote actually does, and what it leaves out.

  2. 02

Understand where the price comes from

See which factors insurers weigh, and which choices are genuinely within your control.

  3. 03

    Compare quotes on equal terms

Line quotes up properly so a difference in price reflects a real difference in value.

  4. 04

Know what to do when it counts

Keep a calm, practical checklist for the minutes and days after a crash.

Editorial standards

How we write our guides

Insurance is full of terms that sound alike and mean different things. These are the rules we hold every guide to.

  • Plain English first

We define each insurance term the first time it appears, and we use worked examples instead of jargon.

  • Grounded in primary sources

We work from policy language and from the published materials of state regulators and federal consumer agencies, not from advertising.

  • Honest about what varies

Rules differ by state and by insurer. When an answer depends on where you live or what your policy says, we tell you so.

  • Examples are labeled as examples

Any dollar figures in our guides are made up for illustration and clearly marked. We don't publish statistics we can't source.

  • Dated and revisited

Every guide shows when it was last reviewed, and we correct errors as soon as we confirm them.

Questions

Good to know before you start

Something else on your mind? Send us a note.

Does AutoQB sell insurance or provide quotes?

No. AutoQB is an educational publisher. We are not an insurer, broker or agent, we don't provide quotes, and we don't recommend specific companies. Our guides are meant to help you understand the quotes and policies you get elsewhere.

Are the guides specific to my state?

The guides explain how car insurance generally works across the United States. Many details, such as required coverages, minimum limits and reporting rules, vary by state. Where something commonly varies, we say so, and your policy documents and your state insurance department have the final word.

Can you review my policy, quote or claim?

We can't review individual policies, quotes or claims, or advise on a specific situation. For that, your insurer, a licensed agent or your state insurance department is the right place to ask. We are always glad to hear which topics you would like a guide to cover.

How are the guides kept current?

Each guide carries the month it was last reviewed. We revisit the guides periodically and whenever we learn of a material change, and we correct errors once we confirm them. If you spot something that looks wrong, please let us know.

What do I get if I sign up for updates?

Emails when we publish a new guide or make a meaningful update, and, only if you opt in, informational text messages. You can unsubscribe from email at any time and reply STOP to end texts.
